Cheng Linan,Professor Cheng is the Director of the Centre for Clinical Research and Training at the Shanghai Institute of Planned Parenthood Research (SIPPR), the Honorary President of International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong Medical College and former Director of the Shanghai Institute of Family Planning Technical Instruction. She is also the Chairwoman of China Family Planning Association, Vice president of China Contraception Consortium and member of Asia Pacific Council on Contraception.
        After graduating as medical doctor in 1975, she went on to pursue her specialization in Family Planning at the Shanghai Medical University, and 1982 got MD on the research “First trimester abortion with prostaglands”.
        Professor Cheng also serves as an editor in several medical journals, such as Chinese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Chinese Journal of Family Planning, and WHO Reproductive Library. To date, she has written and co-written more than 190 journal articles.
        In 1991, Professor Cheng was a World Health Organization (WHO) Sponsored Research Fellow studied on the “Mechanism of Mifepristone for termination of early pregnancy” at the Medical Research Council, Center for Reproductive Biology, University of Edinburgh in UK. 
        After which, Professor Cheng returned home and made significant contributions to the work of family planning area including safe abortion (medical & surgical abortion), emergency contraception, Norplant and IUD etc. in China.
