Shou Weihua, Male, born in February 1982, Ph.D. and Associate professor. B.Sc. in Biological Science in 2005, School of Life Sciences, Yunnan University; M.Sc. in Genetics in 2008, Human Genetics Centre, School of Life Sciences, Yunnan University; Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2012, Ruijin Hospital, School of Medicine Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Post-doctoral research fellow in Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Chinese National Human Genome Center at Shanghai(CHGC) between April 2012 and April 2014; Assistant research fellow and Associate professor in Chinese National Human Genome Center at Shanghai(CHGC, currently Shanghai Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Technologies, SIBPT)since 2014.
He has stayed committed to research work involving genetic mapping for complex diseases and traits, and human genetics based on population structure and adaptive evolution in genes, over the past few years. Amid the major research interests, the important genetic factors underlying cardiovascular diseases and cardiometabolic traits were investigated with systematic analyses integrating multiple genomic data after high-throughput resequencing; the pharmacogenomic studies were performed aiming at genetic variants related to drug distribution and metabolism; and the genetic structure of human populations and the adaptive signatures of genes were explored in studies of human genetics. Nowadays, he carries out the fine mapping of putative causal variants following the scrutiny of independent genetic associations for a target locus that is strongly associated with blood lipid levels and probed into the potential genetic mechanisms after a series of analyzing approaches for genomic data, to help understand the genetic predisposition of coronary artery disease in the Chinese population. Through the analyses of genetic structure for genetic markers indicative of drug efficacy and efficiency, he has discovered a positively selected gene whose signatures are separated from the signal of genes under hard sweeping. He is pursuing to understand its evolutionary progress to provide more information about the biological mechanisms. The research works that he is engaged in have been published in scientific papers of SCI journals. A series of project grants, such as Shanghai Postdoctoral Scientific Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China and Natural Science Foundation of Shanghai, have been awarded or completed.
Main research directions:
Studies aim at genetics and genomics of human complex traits and evolution on the ground of integrating genomic mapping, evolutionary analysis, and functional mechanism assay.
1.Integrated genomic mapping for complex diseases and traits leveraging multi-omics analyses.
2.Population structure and evolution investigation identifying naturally selected loci underlying essential traits.
3.Molecular and cellular phenotyping to elucidate genetic basis and mechanisms of complex diseases and traits.
