Mr. Shao Hai-hao, Professor of Engineering, was born in 1956. As  the head of the Laboratory of sustained-releasing materials preparation, Department of Pharmaceutical Research, SIPPR, Prof. Shao has been engaged in the development of novel long-acting hypodermal contraceptive implants by using the silicone-rubber as drug-releasing carrier, as well as various drug-containing vaginal rings and drug-releasing apparatus in matrix or other preparations.
       Prof. Shao has participated, as the co-principal investigator, in a number of key projects supported by the National Key Technology R&D Program during the Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth, Thirteenth, Five-Year Plan Periods of China. In addition, he had also undertaken several research projects respectively granted by Shanghai Population & Family Planning Commission, Shanghai Municipal Science & Technology Commission. Up to date, he has won 8 Scientific or Technical Awards, 3 drug clinical official written reply, published 9 papers and gained 14 invention patents. He has received many awards and honors such as "Shanghai New Long March", "Shanghai Labor Model", " Shanghai Excellent Communist Party Member ", "National Outstanding Science and Technology Workers", "Enjoy Subsidy Rewarded by State Department ", "Shanghai Spark Technology Project Second Prize", "National Women's Health Science and Technology Third Prize", etc. Nowadays, Prof. Shao has laid the emphasis of his research works on the development of various kinds of slow-controlled releasing vectors containing new steroid contraceptives.
       Through many years of exploration, he captured some common key technical difficulties to develop the silicone-rubber as drug-release carrier and set up technology platform of slow-controlled-release preparation with silicone-rubber as drug-release carrier successfully, he also achieved 5 items of technical innovation of new productive equipments and instruments with silicone-rubber as drug-release carrier.
