Zhang Ting, Ph.D, an associate professor in Shanghai Institute of Planned Parenthood Research (SIPPR),, graduated from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003. She is mainly engaged in scientific researches covering the mechanism of female reproductive system toxicity, new drug development against female reproductive system diseases and cell and animal model construction related to infertility, etc.. After graduation as a doctoral student, she has worked on new drug efficacy and safety evaluations in a foreign drug R & D company. In 2008, she performed researches as a short-term visiting scholar in the University of Michigan. She entered the Drug Development Section of the Shanghai Institute of Planned Parenthood Research (SIPPR) in 2001 to investigate toxic effects of drugs on the female reproductive system, develop therapeutics against female cancers and infertility, and construct relevant cell and animal models. Research contents cover ovarian toxicity incurred by drugs, such as premature ovarian failure, endometrial toxicity and offspring development toxicity, screening and identification of drugs against premature ovarian failure, the preclinical study of 17β-HSD1 siRNA drug packaged by nanoliposomes on ER-dependent breast cancer, and the discovery of lead compounds and mechanism research based on ovarian cancer epigenetics modification, together with improving infertility related cell and animal models applicable to new drug development based on definite disease markers. During her studies, it has been found that premature ovarian failure caused by chemotherapeutics is not only closely associated with follicular cell apoptosis, reactive oxygen species increase and mitochondrial membrane impairment, but subject to regulations of genes including Bcl-2, Bax and p53, etc.. Based on such a mechanism, therapeutics are developed. The good efficacy and safety evaluation profile of 17β-HSD1 siRNA drug were identified against ER-dependent breast cancer . Up to now, she has published 28 papers in total in authoritative pharmaceutical research journals at home and abroad such as Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, Biomedical Chromatography, Acta Pharmacologica Sinica, and Chinese Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology, etc.. Among these papers, 14 deem her as the first and the corresponding authors respectively (6 are SCI articles), while the other 14 incorporate her into other authors (including 11 SCI articles). She is also a reviewer for Human & Experimental Toxicology.
Now, she presides over subjects of special biomedicine project subordinate to the Science and Technology Innovation Action Plan of Shanghai, etc.. Besides, she used to hold 1 project funded by the Natural Science Foundation of Shanghai, 1 special experimental animal project of the Science and Technology Innovation Action Plan, 1 project supported by Youth Science and Technology Innovation Fund of SIPPR, participate in 2 national major special projects (as the person in charge of sub-topics) of the “12th Five Year Plan” and apply for 1 patent for invention.
